Parceval Hall is a religious retreat set in gardens near Appletreewick. It has extensive gardens open to the paying public and a small cafe and outdoor area.
Due to members being on holiday, nine members met at the cafe on a blustery, wet morning, keen to enjoy the sketching day.
The secluded hall and gardens are on a hillside with steep paths winding up to the woodland.
Members produced some good results considering the difficult weather
We made a return visit to Low Hall, Dacre Top. Thirteen members and a friend (a garden expert from Seattle) found plenty to sketch. While we were having lunch in the conservatory Pamela read a poem written by a former Bishop of Canterbury, who obviously enjoyed the peace and quiet of the surroundings as much as we did.
We all had a good day at Low Hall , in spite of a drizzly morning, and the afternoon was sunny.

On a cloudy August Monday in Ramsgill members of the Pateley Art Club scattered about the village quietly sketching subjects they spotted. There were many friendly villagers, including Bill Spence, the walking stick man, Angus who showed Bob a poem about the ruined building that Bob was sketching. Carolyn was invited by a couple to have a cup of tea in their garden.
We gathered on the main green for lunch and to show our progress. Margaret was sharing her knowledge of art to those who needed.
We donated to the Village Hall for its use.
The next trip is to Low Hall at Dacre Top on August 12th. This is a large, delightful and peaceful 17th Century house, the home of Pamela Holliday who opens for the NGS during the year.

Results from the sketching day in Ramsgill Village
Twelve members met at Lofthouse Village Hall where we were warmly welcomed by the artists from “updale” who meet each Monday. Some come as visitors to our monthly club meetings. After coffee, the Bandroom Gallery was opened for us to see the work they produce and sell: paintings, cushions, cards, small decorated boxes, jewellery and painted stones, all beautifully made and reasonably priced. Several of us were tempted and bought! If you want to visit the gallery it is open at weekends from 10am to 4pm.
We had a great choice of cottages and views to sketch and were invited to look into a private garden and some strolled down to the River Nidd. We continued sketching after a lunch break as we were fortunate with a dry day. We collected £21 for the Lofthouse Village Hall funds.

Audrey had recently visited Farnley Hall on an arts bus trip and had asked Guy if club members could sketch in the grounds. He kindly agreed and on the day he showed us where we could sketch. We followed in the footsteps of JMW Turner who visited regularly between 1806 and 1824.
The building has a Georgian block looking out over Wharfedale towards Otley Chevin opposite.
There is an earlier Jacobean building at the rear.
There are extensive grasslands with isolated trees and extensive mixed woodland.

After a day sketching and painting, the members had produced different interpretations of what they saw.
The sun came out on request for the last sketching trip for 2018. Audrey provided hot drinks before members ventured out into Blazefield. There were plenty of subjects, including panoramic views across, up and down Nidderdale.
Many thanks to Audrey for her hospitality and another interesting place for a sketching day in splendid series this year, with almost perfect weather. Plans are in hand for an exciting sketching series for 2019.

The Pateley Bridge Art Club sketching group met for its October outing at the Red Lion in Burnsall, starting off with a customary coffee break before settling to sketch in the lovely Wharfedale village. There were 12 members and 2 guests.
Members were invited by local artist Diana Rosemary Lodge (Rosie) to look at her paintings.
The party met in the Stables Gallery and had a grand tour of the grounds, gardens, lake and woods (part of the National Gardens Scheme). There is an old mill, walled garden, summer house, potting shed and greenhouse. Plenty of sketching subjects.
After a starter coffee, sketching started outside and moved into the Stable Gallery, a studio used for art courses, during the afternoon rain. Audrey promised sunny weather next year.

On a glorious day there was another good turnout for the monthly sketching day. The location on a hill farm had good views around, especially from the nearby hilltop tower.
There were interesting buildings around the hamlet, including a Methodist chapel, a former pub and agricultural buildings.
After a welcome coffee from our hospitable hosts, the members spread out to sketch their chosen subjects.
Our hosts found enough chairs for the sharing lunchtime feast and entertained the group with humorous tales from country life and time spent judging cattle at shows.

The weather this year was perfect for sketching and the location full of interest: hall, farm buildings, extensive gardens (NGS), lawns, trees, pond and stream.
We were made very welcome and enjoyed another creative day.
